From Graphic Design to Painting

With 25 years of experience as a graphic designer, I carry within me a wealth of knowledge and skills that have shaped my artistic journey. In this series, "Alebrijes, Textures of the Imaginary," we see this transition from graphic design to painting. After years spent working on screens, shaping digital images with precision, I felt the irresistible need to return to the very essence of art: painting. This transition was a challenge, but also an opportunity to renew my creativity, to reconnect with the spontaneity and sensoriality of the act of creating.

However, in this transition to tangibility, I still carry with me the fundamental principles of graphic design. The rigor of composition, the clarity of visual communication, the attention to detail: all these values continue to guide my artistic practice, even in this new pictorial universe.

Painting allows me to express my reflections in a more free and intuitive way. It's an introspective process where each brushstroke becomes an expression. The texture, depth, and luminosity of colors in painting add a sensory dimension that enriches the artistic experience.

Navigating between these two disciplines allows me to explore a wide range of techniques, styles, and concepts. Sometimes, my graphic design projects inspire my pictorial works, and vice versa, creating a continuous dialogue between my different artistic practices.
